For the locomotives built in France - primarily those exported outside Europe Ruston engines were used. Popular with Service Engineers due to them being easier to work on than many of the previous RUSTON engines, still mentioned to this day by our Engineers, the 6RK215 and 8RK215 engines were sold for a variety of applications including Main Engines in Tugs and other vessels, land based Power Generation, Naval Power Generation and Water Pumping Station duties. There was eventually four versions of the engine built 6RK215, 8RK215, 12RK215 and 16RK215. ![]() They represented a departure from the usual design for RUSTON as these were the first RUSTON engines to feature underslung Crankshafts. Designed at the beginning of the nineties, the RUSTON RK215 engine was introduced as a high power to weight ratio engine and was built in 6, 8, 12 & 16 cylinder formation.
